Brief Description
Letters, Earthquake Relief Committee and Transport Department.
A letter dated 11 May 1931, to the Officer in Charge of the Transport Department from the secretary of the Napier Earthquake Relief Committee, advising they have enclosed a letter and an invoice from Fred Lowe Motors Limited and asking that the Transport Department enquire into the matter concerned and when completed that the papers are to be returned to the committee office. The signature is difficult to read, the surname is possibly Douglas.
The two page reply from the Transport Office, Napier to the secretary of the Earthquake Relief Committee, Napier is dated 12 May 1931 and is in regard to the invoice of £14:0:9 from Messrs Fred Lowe Motors Limited for damage sustained to a car driven by Mr Chadwick's son, who failed to observe the necessary care required when running in a new car and caused it to require repairs. The car had originally been supplied by Fred Lowe Motors to Doctor Fitzgerald for relief purposes, who with Lowe's approval, then handed the car on to Mr Chadwick, who was in need of the car for Marines on service. The officers in charge advise that they have spoken to both Doctor Fitzgerald and Mr Chadwick and that they consider the claim reasonable and the charges fair. They recommend the account for favourable consideration in respect to payment. The letter is signed by the Officers in Charge of the Transport Office.
