Brief Description
Two Copies of the Order of Service for the Commemorative Service 50th Anniversary of Hawke's Bay earthquake held at the Sound Shell Napier.

Organised on behalf of Napier City Council by the 1931 Napier Earthquake Commemoration Committee.

The service started at 10.47am with the ringing of the Veronica Bell. This was followed by the Hymn O Worship the King; Prayer of Thanksgiving by the Rev. A M Goss; Psalm 103 read by a pupil from Sacred Heart College; Spoken responses; a reading from Acts 16 v 25 - 32 read by Mr E R Spriggs, Mayor of Napier 1950-1956; an Address by His Excellency, The Governor General, Sir David Beattie; A prayer of Dedication by the Bishop of Waiapu, Right Rev. Ralph Matthews; Hymn O God our Help in Ages Past; The Blessing by The Rev. A M Goss.

There is an historical note at the end of the service sheet to say that: On the 3 February 1932, a Napier Civic Thanksgiving Service was held at McLean Park, chaired by J S Barton. On that occasion the hymn O God our Help in Ages Past was sung and Psalm 103 read respectively, and these are included in the service today.

Mr E R Spriggs and the Rev. A M Goss, who are taking part in today's service, were in the Napier earthquake.
