Brief Description
Map, Ypres - Belgium and France. Sheet 28.
Topographical map showing the Menin, Ypres, Warneton and Wervico area.
Ypres area was the site of five battles during World War I :
1) The first battle - October 19 - November 22 1914.
2) Second battle - April 22 - May 15, 1915.
3) Passchendale - July 31 - November 6, 1917.
4) Lys - April 9 - 29, 1918.
5) The fifth battle - September 28 - October 2, 1918.
Noted are cities, Towns, main roads, park areas and rivers.
The map is divided into large rectangles lettered from A to X and the rectangles are subdivided into smaller squares numbered 1 to 36 and are 1,000 yards in length.
It is also noted that the magnetic variation is 13ยบ39' West of true North, which is given by the meridian lines drawn across the map.
