Brief Description
Map of trenches around Vimy during World War I and dated 1917.
Shows the area around Cite de Caumont, Givenchy, Souchez, Petit Vimy and Vimy. The map shows contour lines, towns, railway lines, roads, enemy trenches, British trenches, wire entanglements, supply dumps, trench mortar and mine craters. The map is divided into large rectangles lettered M to U and are sub-divided into squares of 1,000 yards.
The Vimy - Angres line runs from Petit Vimy pass Gvenchy and is fortified by wire entanglement.This area is approximately 2 miles from where the battle for Vimy ridge took place. Numerous fortified mine craters are noted around the Rose Stream, Vernon Stream and Grange Avenue area.
A glossary of terms is included on the reverse.
