About this object
The photograph shows the rebuilding of the temporary St John's Anglican Cathedral, Napier after the devastating 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. The St John's Anglican Cathedral Memorial Cross is still standing, as is the Waiapu Diocesan Office Building and Synod Hall to the right of the image. The exterior walls of Hannahs building is directly behind the cross. The Victorian building on the right by the Norfolk pines is the Napier Borough Council office. The wooden two storied building on the extreme left is the Hawke's Bay Club.
