About this object
The photograph shows the business district of Napier after the devastating 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. The image has been taken from Napier Hill. The ruin of the Napier Municipal Theatre is in the foreground and the Public Trust office is directly behind the remaining wall. The back of the two storied Napier Post Office is in the middle distance. The A B Hurst building, which is located on Emerson Street, is directly in front of the Post Office. The Caledonian Hotel can be seen on the right. Sargood, Son and Ewen Limited stands beside it.
