The photograph shows the rebuilding of Napier businesses after the devastating 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. The image has been taken from Napier Hill looking over the central business district. Tennyson Street is in the foreground and Emerson Street runs parallel. The back of the two storied Napier Post Office can be seen on the right hand side.
