About this object
The photograph has been taken after the devastating 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. The image, taken looking towards Napier Hill, shows what remains of many of the buildings. Evidence of the fire can be seen. The remains of St John's Anglican Cathedral is visible in the middle distance. Emerson Street has been cleared of debris to allow vehicle access. Some temporary buildings have been erected.
