About this object
Sculptor at work designing the bronze statue of Pania. Written on the back of the photograph is: under the skilful touch of the Sculptor's fingers this beautiful figure emerges from the clay. The piupiu, tiki and huia feather are now added.

The statue was made at the Italian Marble Company, Carrara in Italy. The sculptor's name is unknown.

The date of the photograph is unknown, however the statue was unveiled on 10 June 1954, so the statue may have been made the year before.
