About this object
The photograph shows the damage to the Napier Government Lands and Deeds office, caused by the 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. All that remains of the building are the exterior walls. Shakespeare Road has been cleared of debris to allow vehicle and public access. The tram lines can be seen embedded in the tar seal. The remains of the old Napier Post Office are on the left. Private homes can be seen on Napier Hill.
