About this object
The photograph shows the damage to an unidentified building in the Napier business area, caused by the 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. Sailors, probably from HMS Veronica, are searching the rubble for survivors. All that remains of the building are pieces of the walls and the chimney.
