Brief Description
Map, Geological map of South Island. 1947.
The land formations shown are sedimentary, quarternary, tertiary, cretaceous rocks, Permo carboniferous and devonian to ordovicvian rocks.
The map also indicates were there are sites of igneous rocks, both volcanic and plutonic and metamorphic rocks.
Around the Christchurch area there is chiefly quarternary and recent rocks, while Lyttleton and Banks Peninsular it is mainly volcanic - acid and intermediary to basic rock composition.
The bulk of Otago is of a metamorphic - schist composition.
