Brief Description
A collection of undated newspaper clippings, probably from the 1980s and 1990s, about the meat processing industry in Hawke's Bay. Also includes some photocopied information on the meat processing industry in the Hawke's Bay, mostly as related to Tomoana Freezing Works.

(a) Articles titled: The Deals that Closed Whakatu; and Decade of Failure. Contents include: a background of the closure; options, or lack thereof, explained; which parts will continue and which will close; The effect on the killing season; and which company will own which works. There is also background on the failures of the previous 10 years of the industry.

(b) Article titled: Richmond Chiefs Study Legionnaires' Report. Contents: Discovery of the disease at the Oringi freezing works in Dannevirke; Health department reports; and Health department recommendations.

(c) Newspaper photographs titled: Port Rides. Proceeds from the centenary train rides from the Tomoana Freezing Works to the Port of Napier will benefit children at the Hohepa Homes.

(d) Copies of several pages from an unknown book, pages 64-65, and 377-379. The first is titled: A History of the Frozen Meat Trade. The second is titled: Leading Personalities in the Trade. There is a photo of Mr William Nelson.

(e) Copy of an article, possibly from a newspaper, titled: Tomoana works 100 years on...
