Brief Description
A collection of dated newspaper clippings from the 1980s and 1990s about the meat processing industry in Hawke's Bay.
a) Hawke's Bay Herald-Tribune from 1 February 1984. Article entitled: Chance to Steam into Next Century. Contents: Use of the 1932 Bagnall Locomotive, which was used at Tomoana freezing works from 1933 to 1979. It has been restored, and is being used in Hastings' 100th anniversary celebrations. Michael Moloney and Ken Jenks were members of the preservation group.
b) Thursday Telegraph from 23 October 1986. Articles entitled: Quick measure of fat in meat; Accountants' farm role to change?; Identification; For Ian Cameron...standing Ovation. Last article continues into Whakatu freezing works close-down.

Contents: Celebrating the centenary of the first shipment of frozen meat by visiting the port and the USS Wadsworth, a visiting American warship. Train rides were fundraising for charity. There is an image of the Tomoana freezing works trains as it crosses the Ngaruroro River.
j) Handwritten date of 6 July 1984. An image titled: Picture Marks 100 Years of Meat Exports. Described as: A copy of a painting of the sailing ship Turakina, which took the first shipment of frozen meat from Hawke's Bay to England in 1884. The copied painting was gifted from Ian Hopson of P and O New Zealand to Tom Hughes of Nelsons New Zealand Limited.
