Robert Tavener was born in London in 1920 and served with the/ Royal Artillery from 1940 to 1946. Afterwards he studied at the/ Hornsey College of Art, specialising in illustration and lithography./ He taught in kent until 1953 and since then has been on the staff/ of the Eastbourne School of Art. Since 1950 he has been a regular/ exhibitor in most London and provincial galleries. Over thirty of/ his works have been purchased for permanent and circulating collections and he has been represented in Fine Arts Council Travelling/ Exhibitions. In 1953 he shared the first prize in the prints/ section of the 'Football and Fine Arts' Competition sponsored/ by the Football Association. His work was also selected for/ inclusion in the 'best Print of the Year' Exhibition held in New/ York in 1953., Label, Typed
