Brief Description
Newspaper clippings, World War II articles. When these clipping were cut-out of their newspapers, the dates were also removed. But the events within them place them in WWII.
(a) Roll of Honour. Lists rank, first and surnames of soldiers, as well as their parents names and their home town. The categories included are: soldiers killed in action; soldiers killed in action - previously reported missing; presumed dead - previously reported missing; died of wounds; prisoner of war; wounded; prisoner of war - previously reported missing;
(b) Hawke's Bay Response, Military service volunteers, 109 from Napier, medical examinations to begin.
(c) Third Echelon Officers Announced, leaving for camp at beginning of February, many units involved.
(d) 30,000 Married Men, without any children, probably sufficient in N.Z. for two ballots.
(e) Wounded in Sea Battle, Waipukurau man in Achilles, shell splinter, first war casualty in district.

(u) Newspaper photograph, captioned: They're in the Army Now - Hastings members of the Second Echelon headed by the Hastings Citizen's Band marching to the railway station yesterday morning to entrain for camp. They were accorded a vociferous and cheerful farewell by a huge crowd.
(v) Newspaper photograph, captioned: Medical inspection of Volunteers - Men offering their services for the special service force being raised by the Dominion are required to meet high physical standards. Volunteers are here seen undergoing height, weight, and chest measurement test at the Napier Drill Hall on Wednesday night.
(w) Two newspaper photographs, the first captioned: Marching as to War - A typical scene in a Hawke's Bay town as the first volunteers stepped out to do their duty for the Dominion and the Empire. The wider spread of such purpose and determination would now seem to be urgently needed. The second captioned: May They Never be Required - In the vanguard of a military parade, these typical boys of a Hawke's high school revealed such march discipline as many an old soldier envied. It is to be hoped that ceremonial parades such as these will be all that is to be asked of them.
