About this object
The photograph shows sailors, probably from HMS Veronica, two firemen and unidentified men pulling down what remains of a building damaged by the 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. The image is taken at the corner of Herschell Street and Tennyson Street. The road has been cleared of debris to allow vehicle and public access. Damaged buildings are visible in the background.
