About this object
The photograph shows the corner of Emerson and Hastings Streets, Napier after the 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. Flames are engulfing many of the buildings. McGruers, a haberdashery shop, is the building on the left. There are people standing looking at the fire. Amongst the group are several sailors, probably from the HMS Veronica.
