About this object
The photograph shows the debris from the Napier Masonic Hotel located on the corner of Marine Parade and Tennyson Street. The building was destroyed in the 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. Sailors, possibly from HMS Veronica, can be seen searching the rubble for survivors. Napier Hill can be seen in the distance on the right.
