About this object
The photograph shows the destroyed St John's Cathedral, Napier. The photograph is taken from Browning Street looking at the front of the cathedral. The destruction was caused by the devastating 3 February 1931 earthquake and subsequent fire. The walls of the Waiapu Diocesan Office Building and Synod Hall remain standing. There is a sailor, possibly from HMS Veronica, on the left. In the background can be seen the walls of other destroyed buildings.
