About this object
The photograph shows the ruins of the Masonic Hotel on the right, and the Murray Roberts and Company Limited office on the left. Both buildings were located on Marine Parade, Napier. The damage to the buildings was caused by the severity of the earthquake and subsequent fire which occurred on 3 February 1931. In amongst the rubble is the remains of a car. There is a sailor, possibly from HMS Veronica, standing by the debris.
