The photograph shows Hastings Street, Napier taken after the devastating earthquake and subsequent fire of 3 February 1931. The facades and exterior walls of the buildings are all that are left standing. The debris has been cleared from the road to allow vehicle and public access. The building on the left is Hannahs. The tram line can be seen embedded in the road.
