About this object
The photograph shows Shakespeare Road, Napier taken after the devastating earthquake and subsequent fire of 3 February 1931. The facades and exterior walls of the buildings are all that are left standing. The debris from the buildings has been partially cleared from the road to allow vehicle and public access. The brick building on the right is the Government Building. The tram line can be seen embedded in the road.
