About this object
The photograph shows Hastings Street, Napier taken after the devastating earthquake and subsequent fire of 3 February 1931. The debris from the damaged buildings has been removed and the land cleared. Rebuilding of shops and business premises has begun. The buildings from left to right are Ritchies, Harstons Limited and Ringland Brothers (Bros). The tram line is still present as part of the road. The beginning of Shakespeare Street can be seen.
