The photograph shows Tennyson Street, Napier taken after the devastating earthquake and subsequent fire of 3 February 1931. Only the façades and exterior walls of the commercial buildings have been left standing. The telephone poles remain. The road is covered with debris from the damaged buildings. The top of the Public Trust Office can be seen in the distance on the left.
