About this object
The photograph shows Napier taken from Tiffen Park, after the devastating earthquake and subsequent fire of 3 February 1931. Only the façades and exterior walls of the commercial buildings have been left standing. The Criterion Bar, a temporary building, can be seen on a cleared section of land. The Norfolk pines, which grew along Marine Parade, are visible.
