Brief Description
A pamphlet entitled: New Zealand's First Printing Press. The story of the Mission Press brought to Kerikeri in 1830 and taken back to Australia in 1844. By W J Cameron. University of Auckland Bibliographical Pamphlet Number I, Auckland: Printed by students as part of a course in bibliography in the Department of English, University of Auckland, 1959.

This is the first of a series of pamphlets printed on an old handpress Albion number 4224, built in 1863 and first used in Auckland as part of the original plant of the New Zealand government Printing Works in 1864 and now used for teaching bibliography at the University of Auckland.

William Yates and his assistant James Smith were the first printers in New Zealand, the first document printed being a Hymn in Māori, of which no copy survives.

It is noted that William Colenso brought a demy Stanhope press to Paihia at New Year, 1836.

The pamphlet contains a detailed description and analysis of the second pamphlet ever published in New Zealand in 1830 by Yates and Smith: Ko Te Katekihama III.
