Transcribed letters and a newspaper clipping about them:

a) A collection of transcribed letters written by William Colenso to John Drummond between Thursday 22 January 1880 and 27 October 1882. The letters cover a range of topics, including theology, botany, current events, politics, and personal problems. John Drummond collected plant specimens for William Colenso.

b) The transcribed letters are housed in a cardboard folder. Adhered to the inside cover of the folder is a newspaper clipping from The Daily Telegraph titled: Colenso's letters give a glimpse into Hawke's Bay's past. The article is dated 24 September 1969. The article states that John Drummond of Ongaonga was an early settler and a blacksmith. It outlines the range of topics covered by the letters.
