Brief Description
A notebook containing handwritten notes about the United Nations Organisation. Written on the front is the name: A [Aileen] M Andersen, Napier, August 1954. On the back cover is a pencil note which reads: UNO [United Nations Organisation].

The notes begin on the last page of the notebook and continue backwards. The notes celebrate the 10th birthday of the United Nations Organisation. Aileen M Anderson reviews the history of the organisation including: brief social history of England; evolution of the machine; spread of education; the Industrial Revolution; the Victorian age; social unrest of the 20th century; the spread of scientific education; democracy and bureaucracy; trade unions in the 70s; social emancipation of women; discontent and unrest in Europe; the balance of power in Europe; international diplomacy; the Great War and its subsequent catastrophes; the League of Nations; Wilson's Fourteen Points; Lenin's Universal Revolution; World War II; love of power; loss of freedom and human rights; elected government; the United Nations Organisation as a replacement for the League of Nations; the United Nations charter; the United Nations peace-building actions in its first 10 years; United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation; Food and Agriculture Organisation; World Health Organisation; International Labour Organisation; the burden of armaments; research and inventions; the United Nations Security Council; Communism; Russian and Chinese policies; red hot peace versus cold war; butter prices and policies in the United States, the world and New Zealand; New Zealand representation in the United Nations; New Zealand foreign policy; New Zealand military involvement in Korea; the abolishment of war; and eroding of decencies. Attached to the last written page is an undated newspaper article entitled: China to Push Drug Sales.
