Brief Description
Copy of chart to entrance to Hau Ridi (maybe Ahuriri) in the Southern Hawke's Bay by Captain Thomas Wing, Master of the Schooner Trent of the Bay of Islands, N.Z, 1837.

The chart shows two islands at the entrance an inner harbour - one has a Māori village located on it with Waiabita (sic) tribe identified. There is information for ships regarding what circumstances it is best to enter the harbour. Depth soundings are shown at the entrance as well as inside the harbour. Two points are named - Batemans Head and Yellow Bluff Head. Recorded on the chart is: this chart was copied from a rough tracing belonging to Mr Wyld, May 12th 1841.
