Memorial Scroll and Letter attributed to Percy R Manson.

a) Letter regarding memorial scroll from the Minister of Defence, Wellington dated 7 October 1922.

Letter explains that as many next-of-kin of soldiers killed during the Great War have asked for some kind of memorial, the Government has approved, issuing a special illuminated certificate. One of these has been forwarded to the next of kin of Percy R Manson. It records his service and certifies that he gave his life for his country. Expresses gratitude for the kinsman's service, and assures that he will be remembered.

b) Large memorial scroll entitled: The Great War 1914-1918, certificate of the services in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces of 13/3048 Trooper Percy Robert Manson,

Scroll lists the theatres of war Percy Manson served in, as well as his awards. The image includes the goddess Nike of Victory who holds a scroll on which a New Zealand soldier is writing the words New Zealand. There is a pack of lions at their feet, the male lion laying atop a dead eagle. In the background are ships at sea, mountains, palm trees, a volcano, a Māori war canoe and a Māori-style building. Jellicoe's name is in the middle , above his name is the New Zealand crest and another that is the title writing and decoration. Along the top of the whole scroll is the lion, unicorn and crest of the United Kingdom. On the bottom left is a small frame, the sides and bottom of which carved Māori figures, while the top has a crown at the peak.

Inside the frame details Percy Manson's war service including the date he commenced duty (16 November 1915); date embarked (29 February 1916); date of death (30 March 1918) and place of death (Palestine).
