Brief Description
Letter and envelope from Percy R Manson.

a) Letter from Percy R Manson to his sister Mabel. Written while on active service in Palestine and dated 22 January 1918. The letter reads:
Dear Mabel,
I now take up my pencil to write to you a few lines in answer your most ever welcome letter which came to hand last week & also to thank you very much for the parcel you sent which arrived in the best of condition. Well Mabel you will know by the heading I am still in the Holy Land which no doubt you have read about in your daily papers this last two months. The country is not so bad were we are now, plenty of orchards which consist mostly of oranges which are all ripe at the present time and grapes which we have not had the pleasure of trying yet. The weather has been fairly wet this last month & of course that is quite a change from what we have been use to on the Sinai Peninsula. It rained on Xmas Day but of course that did not spoil our dinner as we had some rabbit stew which were sent from Australia. I must say they were very decent I see by your letter that Walter has arrived at Sling camp in England & has got a base job. I don’t suppose it will be long before young Clive will have to part from that beloved young girl of his up the Main Trunk Line & come to the war. I suppose it will break her heart when Clive goes away. I think I will have to go to England for a girl as I have not got much time for the Jews that live in this part as they are the meanest race under the sun. How is your farm getting on & that horse you use to have. By jove he was a skinny customer when Fred bought him. I sent Viv some PC I got in Pt Said did he ever get them. I suppose you heard that Bert Houghton got wounded in the last scrap we had with the Turks. I believe he got a fairly nasty wound but is just about better now & I don’t suppose it will be long before he is back again. Bill Flynn is still going strong & Archie McKay he is still in the Wellington Regiment. Well I think I will have to come to a close with this letter so I hope it will find you in the best of health as it leaves me.
I am Your loving brother
Percy R Manson.
