Brief Description
Letter and envelope from Percy R Manson.

a) Letter from Percy R Manson to his mother. Written while on active service in Palestine and dated 23 September 1917. The letter reads:
Dear Mother,
Just a few lines to let you know that I am alive and keeping in the best of health & hope you are keeping the same. I received one of your most welcome letter about three days ago. Very pleased to see that you have all been keeping well on it. You have has very heavy floods in Hawkes Bay this last winter so I suppose everything there has a different appearance to the things here. One cannot see a blade of grass for miles round, but I suppose next month things will look green again as it is supposed to be the wet month in Palestine; our weather of late has not been too hot as it has been rather windy and dusty. The cake Tot sent arrived alright & I was very glad to get it as eatables are always welcome out here. The billy comes in very handy to for making any thing in. How is Clive getting on up the Main Trunk Line, I do not here very much from him. I suppose he will be coming to the war soon. He does not want to be in too much of a hurry to come away, as there are plenty of men to go before he goes. I think anyone under twenty is to young to come away. I had my twenty first birthday in Palestine; I did not thing (sic) I would have it here two years ago. I see by your letter that Fred’s father has been very ill; by jove he has been a wonderful old man to live to the age he is. How is old Tuck getting on. I have not heard anything of him for a long time. I was talking to Billy Flynn of Waipawa, he was saying old Flynn was still kicking around. Well Mother I hope these few lines will find you in the best of health as they leave me at present.
I am Your loving son
Percy R Manson
