Brief Description
Letter and envelope from Percy R Manson.
a) Letter from Percy R Manson to his sister Mabel. Written while on active service in Palestine and dated 5 April 1917. The letter reads:
Dear May,
Just a few lines to let you know I am keeping in the best of health & hope you are keeping the same. I received your welcome letter yesterday & I see that you have been out at the farm amongst the sheep. The Bedouins have a few sheep here but they are a lot different to yours, they are quiet & they lead them about with them were ever they go. The weather has been decent lately. We are camped about a hundred yds from the sea, so we get the sea breeze. How is Fred getting on. I suppose he has the bust time over now, all the shearing done. I had a letter from Vin with the last mail from France. He seems to be keeping alright on it. I don’t suppose the men like conscription, being drawn in the ballot. I think by the time this war is over there will be very few men left back in NZ. Well May I think I will have to close now. I have no news here at present. Hoping this will find you in the best of health.
I am Your loving brother
Percy R Manson.
b) Military issue envelope for use on active service. Addressed to Mrs Fr Millin care of Mrs S Manson.
