Brief Description
Letter and envelope from Percy R Manson.

a) Letter from Trooper Percy Manson to his mother on 17 June 1916 from Egypt. The letter reads:
Dear Mother,
Just a few lines to let you know I am keeping in the best of health and hope you are keeping the same. The weather over here is very hot at present it being summer now the flies are just as bad as ever. I have been away from here for three weeks. I have been at the training school at Zeetown taking a course on the Machine Gun, so have not had much time for writing as we had to do a lot of writing down there. I have been in to Cairo since I last wrote to you and it is a fine place. The old and the new mosques are marvellous inside and in one of the old ones their (sic) is a gold door which cost fifty thousand pounds. I have not heard from Vin since he left here. How is the Main Trunk Line getting on I expect they are very busy at present, I don’t know where (sic) we will be shifting to but I don’t think we will be long here. Well I will have to close for this week, hoping this will find you in the best of health.
I am Your loving son
Percy.

b) Military issue envelope for use on active service. Addressed to Mrs S Manson.
