Brief Description
Letter and envelope from Percy R Manson.
a) Letter from Trooper Percy Manson to his Mother on 30 January 1916 from the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt. The letter reads:
Dear Mother,
Just few lines in haste to catch the mail to let you know I received your welcome letter which came to hand last week. I am still keeping in the best of health & hope you are keeping the same. The weather we have been having has been very good up to late but today it is nearly blowing our bivvie down, & the sand is enough to blind you. I was reading some of the names of the conscripts which they have been calling up, quite a number of chaps from Napier & around about that I know. I expect they are having trouble now to get the reinforcements filled up. I saw in the paper were(sic) Ellie husband was killed. I was very sorry to see it. Gordon McKecknie is not coming to the war just as well as Mrs MacKecknie wants someone to look after things for her. It is a wonder Oscar does not come, he is big enough & I think he should have enlisted before Gordon perhaps he thinks it is safer at home. I had a letter from Viv yesterday he is keeping well. He wishes to be remembered to you all. Did you get those Post Cards of myself I sent you. How is the garden keeping I suppose it has a few weeds in it now. I suppose it nothing to see Tal(?) out weeding the flowers. Well Mum, I think I will have to cut this note short as we have not got much to write about here. Hoping this will find you in the best of health as it leaves me at present.
I am Your loving son Percy R Manson
