Brief Description
Letter and envelope from Percy R Manson.
a) Letter from Trooper Percy Manson to his mother written on 28 December 1917 from Palestine. The letter reads:
Dear Mother,
Just a few lines to let you know I am still alive & keeping in the best of health & hoping you are keeping the same. I received one of your most ever welcome letter on Xmas Day. I suppose you had most of the boys home for Xmas. Our Xmas day passed like an ordinary day. We had a stew for Xmas dinner made of rabbits & it was very good. The Xmas pudding would have been alright but it never arrived. I hope our next Xmas will be spent in old NZ. The weather of late has been very changeable(sic) this last week it has been raining every day. I have not had a letter from Walter since he left NZ so I suppose he will be in France by now. I see by your letter that Beaty has got another boy. I don’t suppose I would no(sic) the eldest boy now. I suppose we will be getting some leave soon so I will be cabling for some money, so you can get it from Mr Clark. Well I think I will have to close now as news is very scarce here. So I hope these few lines will find you in the best of health.
I am Your loving son
Percy R Manson
b) Military issue envelope for use on Active Service. Addressed to Mrs S Manson care of Mr A Manson.
