Brief Description
Letter and envelope from Percy R Manson.
a) Letter from Trooper Percy Manson to his mother written on 26 December 1916 in the Sinai Desert. The letter reads:
Dear Mother,
Just a few lines in answer to your most welcome letter which came to hand last week. I received a parcel from you & also two from Mabel which she sent for Walter – which I must thank you for as I appreciated them very much. I also received on(sic) from Mrs McKechnie & it contained a lot of handy things. The pain killer came in very handy as two of the chaps had the tooth ache very bad, & of course I came to the rescue with the pain killer. Yesterday was Christmas day. I expect & hope you all enjoyed your Christmas dinner I was rather tired to enjoy mine as we had been up for three nights riding & felt more like having a sleep. The Christmas pudding arrived we had to be content with bully beef for the turkey. I received a letter from Vin the other day. He is keeping alright although he says it is very cold in France, I bet it is too. Last night we had rain here & by jove it did rain we got wet through of course our bivvies are only sun proof. Well I think I will have to close this short note. Hoping this will find you in the best of health as it leaves me.
I am Your loving son
Percy R Manson.
b) Military issue envelope for use on Active Service. Addressed to Mrs S Manson.
