Brief Description
Pictorial map of Lake Taupo.
Map of Lake Taupo and surrounds, showing Māori legends concerning the origin of Lake Taupo. The lake has various depth readings, along with Māori legends and myths noted around the lake area. Mototaiko island which is recorded to have been a fortified island of Ngatatuwharetoa, later becoming a tribal burying site is shown. A Waikato invasion is said to have been repulsed from this island. Taupo can be seen at the right hand top area and Tapuaeharuru Bay which translated means a place of resounding footsteps.
