Cape Kidnappers - Te Matau - A Maui which, according to Māori legend was the fish hook of Maui and was the jawbone of his grandmother Murirangi Whenua with which he pulled up the North Island from the sea.
The mouth of the Ngaruroro River which was the site of the Waitangi mission station established by Rev William Colenso December 30, 1844 on 10 acres of land.
