Brief Description
The soil map of the Heretaunga Plains in Hawke's Bay, shows roads, railway lines, bridges, orchards, farm boundaries, stopbanks, stony gravels, sand, silt and clay loam soils and free sub soil phase areas around Napier, Hastings and Pakipaki rural areas.

The area around Clive is listed as being chiefly silt loam and clay loam which are reputedly good for grass seeding areas and grazing country. The areas around Meeanee and Awatoto are grey silt loam and clay loam and are moderately good for grazing. Taradale is chiefly made up of grey silt loam. The area around Te Aute Road and Middle Road are first class orchard soils.
