Brief Description
Two Permit Books attributed to the Public Works Department for the supply of petrol and for permission to depart from and return to Napier during the aftermath of the Hawke's Bay Earthquake 1931. Issued by the Earthquake Relief Committee Transport Department.

Most of the original slips are absent, with the carbon copied duplicate remaining. Information on the slip includes the person, company or department, invoice number, date, particulars of permit and signature of assignee.

a) Permit Book number 13. Transport Supplies. Personal Permits and Benzine, 26th February to 27th February 1931. Permits issued include travel to: Wellington, Palmerston North, Gisborne, Hastings, Taradale, Dannevirke, Wanganui, Waipukurau, Meanee and Havelock North. Includes permission granted for various amounts of petrol, benzine and oil, puncture repairs and return of goods.

b) Permit Book number 14. Transport Supplies. Personal Permits and Benzine, 23rd February 28th February 1931. Permits issued include travel to: Palmerston North, Wellington, Hastings, Fielding, Clive, Taradale, Wanganui, Havelock North, Puketitiri, Auckland, Puketapu, Dannevirke, Waiwhetu, Waipawa, Meeanee, Te Pohue, Gisborne, Bayview, Waipukurau and Petane. Includes permission granted for various amounts of petrol, benzine and oil and puncture repairs.
