Brief Description
Manuscripts attributed to the Drummond family.

a) A letter written by William Colenso to William Drummond, addressed and dated Napier, 21 July 1896. The letter is in regards to the superior evening school in Dannevirke. He states that he cannot advise on which subject to undertake out of Algebra, Book Keeping and Mechanical Drawing.

b) A letter written by William Colenso to William Drummond, addressed and dated Napier, 30 January 1897. The letter concerns Venus the evening star, his next visit to Dannevirke and a gale blowing over old Acacia trees.

c) A letter written by William Colenso to William Drummond, addressed and dated Napier, 18 October 1897. William Colenso writes about a number of subjects including the weather, Venus the evening star, the Bishop returning from England, meeting of the Synod, weak legs, that his arm and hand had not healed, the Young Mens' Temperance Union, and his garden.

d) A Christmas card written by William Colenso to W C Drummond. The front cover of the card features little brown birds flying underneath a horse shoe and the top left and bottom right corners are decorated by cream flowers. There is a verse printed inside the card with a flower on the back of the card.

e) A New Zealand Education Department Standard Certificate. Includes printed entries for standards one to six, including gaps to be filled in by the examiner. This certificate was awarded to William Drummond, who passed the fourth standard and dated 23 May 1893 at Dannevirke District School, in the Education District of Hawke's Bay. Signed by Head Master Popplewell.

f) A folded paper programme. Front page reads: Form of United Farewell Service for use in camp upon the Departure of Contingents of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force to the Front. Inside the programme hymns and prayers are printed. At the bottom of the front page is an area that has handwritten information. This states that Captain W Drummond is part of the Canterbury Company, 3 Battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. Printed by Whitcombe and Tombs Limited.

g) A black and white half length portrait photograph of a woman, with a white oval border. Handwritten in the border is: Yours Lovingly Lois.

h) A black and white three quarter length portrait photograph of a girl, Jessie Hansard Drummond, holding a cat, with a white border.

i) A newspaper clipping entitled: Mr J Sargent's Entry Wins First Place In Hobbies Exhibition. Undated.

j) A newspaper clipping titled: Local Club Members Impressed With New Layout. Undated.

k) A newspaper clipping titled: Authoress Of Brilliant "First" Thriller Has Link With Dannevirke. Undated.
