About this object
A booklet of letters. At the beginning of the booklet is an index of the letters from A - X. There is a second index inserted after the first, with annotations and crossing out. The letters have been hand numbered. A metal needle with string through the eye is present in the binding of the booklet. There is one section of letters at the bottom of the booklet which are unbound.

Most of the letters were written by William Colenso to Mr David Paton Balfour between 25 January 1875 and 6 September 1889. Inserted in amongst the pages are further handwritten notes, and a newspaper article. Some letters include plant specimens which have been adhered to the pages by small adhesive tabs. There are also letters addressed to F W C Sturm; a letter written by Thomas Frederick Cheeseman, Curator at the Auckland Museum, to David Paton Balfour; and letters written by David Paton Balfour to William Colenso.
