Brief Description
Correspondence and Returns Book of the Hawke's Bay Provincial Council Inspectors of Schools, 1866 - 1878. School Inspectors: William Colenso and Henry Hill.
There is one early entry in the book, a letter adhered to the first page. The letter is written by the Inspector of Schools to the Superintendent Office, dated 4 March 1861. The letter concerns six schools receiving funding in the Napier town and country.
The first entry written in the book is dated 15 June 1866. Most of the letters in the book are written by William Colenso. There are some additional handwritten and printed pages adhered to pages within the book. The last entry is dated 30 April 1878. Mr Colenso ceased duties as Inspector of Schools at this time. In this last entry the following Inspectors of Schools are listed:

Henry Godwin began June 1866
Edward L Green began in February 1867
William Colenso began July 1872
Henry Hill began June 1878
There are two typed copies of Extracts from the Hawke's Bay Provincial Inspector of Schools correspondence, related to Meeanee School. These are dated 4 April 1873, 5 November 1873 and 11 March 1878 respectively.
