Brief Description
Eight Food Requisition Receipt Books used by the Napier Food Control Committee as part of the relief effort following the Napier earthquake of 1931.
The slips are perforated close to the spine, most of the original slips are absent, with the carbon copied pink duplicate papers remaining. Handwritten information on the slip includes the person or company requisitioned, quantity, description and delivery instructions for the requisitioned goods, name of Food Controller, and date.
a) Number 1 Food Requisition Receipt Book dated 11 February to 12 February 1931. Food Controller signatories include H E Edgley (Secretary) and L Stephenson. Goods requisitioned include: sugar, jellies, custard powder, salmon, potatoes, milk, onions, vinegar, eggs, pickles, tinned meats, washing soda, mutton, benzine, pineapple, kerosene, golden syrup, candles, soap, sago, butter, marrow, cabbage, nails, iron, tomatoes, bacon, mops, peaches, apricots, salt, lambs fry, jam, oatmeal, prunes, sheep tongues, cocoa, boots, coal, wood, tarpaulin, baking powder, coffee, transport and flour.
b) Number 2 Food Requisition Receipt Book dated 12 February to 14 February 1931. Food Controller signatories include H E Edgley (Secretary). Goods requisitioned include: evaporated peaches, lettuce, benzine, transport, pencils, bacon, coal, ink, cabbage, turnips, oatmeal, jam, sawdust, broom, tea towels, beef, firewood, ginger ale, peas, toilet rolls, pickles, cornflour, tongues, dates, split peas, biscuits, sheep, eggs, and stamps.
h) Number 8 Food Requisition Receipt Book dated 28 February to 17 April 1931. Food Controller signatories include A Hobson and H Schierning. Goods requisitioned include: fly rolls, bacon, butter, dish cloths, benzine, oil, coal, worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, wood, day files, price book, ledger, envelopes, pencils, paper clips, stamps, beef, sheep, fire shovel, needle and twine, tubes and lamb. One third of the book is unused.
i) This is another Requisition Receipt Book with a different header: N Z R Refreshment Branch. The handwritten title on the front cover attributes the Requisition book to: Food Control, 5 February - 7 February 1931. Food Controller signatories include: F Lindsay, and P Box. Goods requisitioned include: benzine, tea, sugar, condensed milk, jam, soap, candles, paper bags, flour, salt, brushes, meat, cheese, disinfectant powder, matches, mutton, kerosene, petrol, bacon, potatoes, oil, firewood, and coal.
