Brief Description
A lock of William Colenso's hair with an envelope and small folded note:

a) A small curled lock of fine yellow grey hair, bound by cream silk thread. There are a few darker hairs in amongst the grey. William Colenso died at Napier in 1899, aged 88. The hair was removed after his death.

b) An envelope accompanies the lock of hair.

c) A small folded note accompanies the lock of hair.

The lock of hair is small and curled, tied in the middle with a piece of silk thread. The envelope has handwritten notes on the front in pencil, and black and blue ink; the note is on a small folded piece of lined paper, handwritten in black ink.
