Brief Description
The first issue of the New Zealand Gazette Extraordinary, printed in Paihia at the Press of the Church Missionary Society by William Colenso. The issue is dated 30 December 1840.

The gazette includes articles about: the Gazette Extraordinary being deemed the official paper for Government Advertisements; the appointment of Francis Fisher, Edward L Godfrey and Matthew Richmond as Claims to Grants of Land Commissioners; a list of Claimants to Grants of Land including George Green, William Wright and William S Grahame, Patrick Byrne, J W Macnee, Henry Richard Oakes, John Israel Montefiore, James Busby, Samuel Hawke, William Christmas, and William Salmon Deloitte and an investigation into the mentioned Claims to Grants of Land by the Commissioners; a request for builders to submit tenders to build the Public Offices at Auckland; and the boundaries surrounding the Town of Auckland and the river and Harbour of Waitemata to be reserved by the Crown.
