Brief Description
Journal cover is titled: Ahuriri, Park - 1855. The book contains pencil sketches and drawings by surveyor Robert Park. Diary entries begin at the front of the book and conclude at the back, and span from Wednesday, 7th March to Monday, 7th May. It details his overland journey from Wellington, to and around Hawke's Bay and Ahuriri, and includes sketches and maps of areas and places he visited or surveyed. Sketched maps include geographical locations. One page is headed: Reserves in Weretas [Wereta's] block and provides descriptions. Included are sketches of the home of Alexander Alexander, described as 'Castle Alexander' and sketched from different perspectives. Some of the sketches feature Māori and waka [canoes] and different areas of the Inner Harbour including Balmoral, Fitzgerald's Bay, Hart's Bay and looking towards Napier [Scinde Island].

A carbon pencil sketch features people and animals standing and seated in a field, with large clouds of smoke and fires burning in the distance.
