Object detail

Brief Description
Discharge slip and envelope for Private Bernard Seymour Pelling.

a) Discharge slip made out due to physical and nervous exhaustion. Dated 21 October 1943 by a doctor whose signature is illegible. This information is on the front of the slip. Inside it is stamped with embarkation and disembarkation dates for Seymour on the ship ' Oranje '. This slip has several areas inside and on the back for filling in medical conditions and medications, but in this case they are not used.

b) The envelope repeats Seymour's information, diagnosis, and travelling information. It also give instructions on how both the envelope and slip should be used and how they can be disposed of.

On both items are various numbers written in grease pencil - some have been crossed out and other circled, but there is no explanation for them.
